GENERAL ROMANCE GUIDELINES

At Berkley, we pride ourselves on the diversity of our women’s fiction program. Most of our romances are published in Berkley Sensation, our romance imprint. We publish historical romances, paranormal romances, contemporary romantic suspense, and single-title mainstream novels. Our list of authors includes Barbara Bretton, Catherine Coulter, MaryJanice Davidson, Christine Feehan, Emma Holly, Susan Johnson, Angela Knight, Betina Krahn, Jayne Ann Krentz, Lynn Kurland, Deirdre Martin, Nora Roberts, Julia Ross, Jodi Thomas, Rebecca York and many more.

Our romances are approximately 100,000 words in length.

We prefer agented submissions, but if don’t have an agent, please send a brief synopsis and the first three chapters to a specific editor, including a brief description of the plot, previously published works (if applicable), as well as any other pertinent information. Do not send the same submission to more than one editor at Berkley or any other Penguin Group (USA) imprint. Please allow at least four to six months for replies to manuscripts requested by an editor. Hard copy submissions are preferred to email.
