I do better under pressure. Always have. It was the late nights that got me during last deadline -- either I sleep enough, or I eat to keep going. Unfortunately, I was writing long, late nights, and it lead directly to poundage. I'm already down almost 5 pounds. Yippee!

Anyone who wants to join me or egg me on can follow my weight loss efforts at my special for-this-purpose blog:

New Year, New Ass

Love to see you there!

C'mon...

Somebody must want to know something. What my favorite form of caffeine is. Who I call when I need a push on my writing. Why it's so long between books.

Ask away. I told you, I'll answer (almost) anything.

I just got back from a delicious weekend of conferences. First, I got to present a pair of workshops at the Whidbey Island Writers Conference, a great small conference in Washington state. One of the fun aspects is that the presenters are put up in local homes, and I got assigned to a spectacular Northwest-style home owned by a couple that made me feel like an old friend instead of a total stranger. Plus I also got to connect up with two actual old friends. Couldn't have been better.

Then I skipped out a little early (by prior arrangement) to scoot on down to Oregon for a big signing at Borders in Beaverton and the last hours of Celebrate Romance, a reader's conference that was held at the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland. Afterward, I headed back toward Beaverton to spend 4 hours in deep conversation with a writer buddy/critique partner.

Then came the drive home, of course -- not fun in the dark and rain, but I made it.

And now I'm going to bed.

Anyone else have a good weekend?

Sounds like a great weekend!

We had a busy but not very eventful weekend visiting family. It's beginning to look like spring here, and we celebrated by grilling hamburgers. Of course, we grill even if there's snow on the ground, but my German in-laws are always up for American burgers (something about the beef tastes different, apparently). Sunday we continued the celebration by going out for

Usually we visit a on the weekends, but last week had been so and it was really too muddy for hiking.

So, what is your favorite form of caffeine??

Sounds like a good weekend, Darla, and yes, American burgers are different. Have you ever had a French hamburger? To me, they tasted just like Inspector Clouseau/Steve Martin pronounced the word...amboorgarh

Favorite form of caffeine: 20 oz, two shot latte -- sometimes with a shot of something like Irish Cream flavoring. You can ice it in the summer.

Favorite form of caffeine-like substance (theobromine): 72% or higher cacao from Madagascar is nice, but I'll take any chocolate in any form. In a desperate moment, I've even been known to eat baking chocolate.

What about the rest of you? Does chocolate ring your chimes, or is it some other wondrous substance?

I have a Mother's Day post (sort of...you'll see why I say that) over on my blog. But the real attraction is pix of my 18 yo in costume as Cogsworth for his HS production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

lisahendrix.com/blog

I started my first (published) book when he was a year old. Now look at him.

Haven't posted here in a while - that 18 yo I mentioned a couple of posts ago is packing to head off to college next week. Summer went fast.

On the weight-loss front, I've started a running program written 13 years ago by software programmer Josh Clark, called Couch to 5K (info at Cool Running -- where there's also a link to a snazzy iPhone app for the program). I'm working with a Twitter buddy and we egg each other on (I'm LisaHendrix on Twitter), plus I'm posting updates at my weightloss blog, NewYearNewAss . Pick your favorite venue and follow along. Or join me and get in shape with us.

{{{{hugs}}}} Lisa! Our middle child, the 19-year-old, went back to Texas to school a few weeks ago. I agree with you--summer went by way too fast!

I've slacked off horribly on the fitness front--summer was just so busy, and my husband was back in the States for two weeks for surgery (removal of a skin cancer--use your sunscreen!), just while our youngest was starting high school. And that alarm going off at 5:15 every morning isn't making things any easier.

I did start walking to the gym--about a 15-minute walk from the house is a nice gym with Nautilus machines--and I'm planning on making a routine of going every other day. I working out with weights, and the walk to and from the gym gives me a little cardio as well.

Wow...things have been quiet here for a long time. If I try to stir things up, will anyone notice? Hmmm.

I got IMMORTAL CHAMPION finished and in to Berkley. It will be out in January 2011. It's Gunnar's story, and his lady is Eleanor de Neville, a real member of the notorious Neville family (her nephew grew up to be Neville the Kingmaker).

I also used a Percy or two, a couple of kings Henry, and a famous dene in east Durham.

And did I mention that there's hot sex in the woods?
