Hear now the words of the witches,
The secrets we hid in the night,
When dark was our destiny's pathway,
That now we bring forth into light....

Introduction
By Yvonne Jocks

Good Witches. Magical powers. Bubbling cauldrons and moonlight rituals. Most people believe these are the stuff of fairy tales and fantasies.

Most people are wrong.

Welcome to a collection of stories and wisdom by modern-day Witches and their friends which may just set the record straight. Unlike some pure fantasy stories, these will not only entertain you, but do so while showing what Witchcraft and Modern Magick are really about.

Do real Witches ride through the night on broomsticks? Wiggle their noses to make things appear? Worship the devil? Put curses on their enemies?

No.

Do they work real magick, foretell the future, heal the sick?

Yes.

Do they have hopes, dreams, and heartaches like the rest of us? Absolutely! But sometimes, it takes a little magic to set things back on course.

This collection of stories, by a mix of both established and new authors, shows the variety of the modern Craft of the Wise. Some of them, like Maggie Shayne's Anytown, USA, could have been lifted from the headlines. Others, like Rosemary Edgehill's The Iron Bride reveal what headlines might not always tell. Many of the Witches you'll meet are still seekers, like Val Taylor's Reluctant Psychic, just finding their path. Others, as in Zelina Winter's poignant Tambourine Moon, introduce Witches from old traditions indeed. Most importantly, all of the women within these stories, from a despairing wife in Lorna Tedder's Reverence for Trees to a wife who may regret her magical victory in Celia Moon's The Letter, are not simply Witches. They are real women and men.

Enjoy the words these Witch and Witch-friendly authors have to tell. If they bring you entertainment, that is enough. If they haunt you with a sense of unexpected familiarity, even better. Either way, enjoy the magic.

And believe.
