Maureen McKade
Growing up in a small town in Minnesota farming country,
Maureen has enjoyed penning stories since the moment she
learned to read, write and string sentences together. She
earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at St. Cloud
(MN) State University then taught middle school science for
three years, until her husband joined the Air Force. After
that, she held various jobsbookstore clerk,
administrative assistant, customer service manager,
department manager, and pharmacy technicianuntil
settling on writing. (Or, more aptly, until writing settled
on her.)
In 1993, Maureen attended her first writers' conference in
Omaha and began writing in earnest. Her first manuscript,
"Winter Hearts", was a finalist in a national contest for
unpublished writers. She flew to Honolulu for the awards
ceremony, and although she didn't win, she did capture the
attention of an editor who later bought "Winter Hearts."
Since then, she's had nine more books and a short story for
an anthology published.
Maureen and her husband, who retired from the Air Force,
live on 40 nature-filled acres in southwestern North Dakota.
Her eclectic list of leisure pursuits include long walks
with hubby and their two French Brittany Spaniels, reading,
wildlife watching, fishing, hunting, baking, and listening
to movie soundtracks while writing.
